Frustration over Middleton roadworks
Date published: 05 November 2015
Two sets of roadworks and temporary traffic lights on the same stretch of road in Middleton has caused residents and drivers to become frustrated with the Council.
Roadworks on Hollin Lane and Long Street at the same time are leading to traffic building up in the area.
Resident Tony Vose said: “Who at the council planned these works and scheduled them for the same time? The two sets of temporary traffic lights are causing traffic chaos in the area, on one of the main routes in and out of Middleton.
“I have tried to speak to someone at the council but was told that they weren’t in to speak to me. It’s ridiculous.”
Mark Widdup, Director of Neighbourhoods at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “Only one set of temporary lights had been permitted to operate in that area. As soon as we were made aware of a second set, we arranged for them to be removed.
“Since then, the first set has also been removed and traffic has returned to normal.”
