Power to the young people! M6 Youth Theatre launch £5k crowdfunding campaign

Date published: 05 November 2015

M6 Youth Theatre has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise £5,000 in 40 days.

Amidst funding cuts and fewer opportunities in the Borough for young people to engage in free time activities, the talented youngsters, alongside M6's fundraising team, have decided to take financial matters into their own hands and add crowdfunding to their repertoire.

They are appealing to the generosity of the public to raise much needed funds, which will allow them to stage three original productions for friends, family and the local community, to be performed at M6 Studio Theatre, Albert Royds Street, Rochdale during 2016.

The young people have starred in their own humorous short film based on a series of ‘spoof’ TV clips to raise awareness of the campaign.

Caroline Kennedy who runs the Youth Theatre along with colleague Eleanor Samson said:
“M6’s fantastic Youth Theatre is for young people aged eight to 18, coming from all four townships of the Borough.

"The weekly workshops enable them to access a professional arts experience on their doorstep, when otherwise they may not have the chance to engage with the arts at all.

"M6 Theatre Company is a registered charity and receives key funding from Arts Council England, Rochdale MBC, Link4Life and AGMA, however raising extra money will allow the young people to share their talents with the people of Rochdale by staging fabulous shows, allowing everyone to engage in an unforgettable, hopefully life changing experience.”

Mathew Crowther, who attends the weekly sessions and appeared as John Snow from Game of Thrones in the fundraising film, said: “It will be amazing if we hit our fundraising target as it means we can invest in props, set, costume and lighting for our shows.

"It’s been a lot of fun coming up with script ideas and taking part in the filming of the video.

"We really hope the public will get behind us and give what they can – then come and watch a performance to see what their money has helped create.”
