Jessica Ward crowned 32nd Rochdale Guides Bake Off Champion

Date published: 26 October 2015

Jessica Ward, age 10, has been crowned the 32nd Rochdale Guides Bake Off Champion.

Girls from 32nd Rochdale Guides fought it out over dough and pastry in a quest to be named as Bake Off Champion.

The theme was ‘Savoury Showstoppers’ to tie in with the theme of party food as part of their Party Planner badge.

Guides brought their dishes along to their weekly meeting, ready to eat, and all the Guides acted as judges.

Jessica impressed the judges with her delicious cheese and onion pie.

Jessica said: “It was a great night. I made the pie with some help from my mum, and was so pleased to win.”

The judges also chose a winning team of Star Bakers: Milly Thomas (11), Madison Feeney (12), Macy-Mae Watkinson (12) and Morgan Ellison (11).

All Guides were awarded The Great Guide Bake Off Challenge Badge.

Diane Foster, Leader of 32nd Rochdale Guides, said: “The Great Guide Bake Off was a great challenge for the girls to try something new and grow in confidence together. It was great to see the creations they came up with, they’d made a huge effort and we had lots of fun trying all the dishes.”

The Great Guide Bake Off is part of a wider range of activities being carried out by 32nd Rochdale Guides this term. The Guides have planned their own programme and have themed it around the Cook and Party Planner badges, as well as the Parties Go For It, and North West England Region Challenge ‘Grow It, Bake It, Eat It’.

This term the Guides have also supported their local community by learning how to bake bread, and donating home-made bread rolls to the local soup kitchens and shelters, for homeless people of Rochdale.
