The Springhill Hospice Calendar Launch

Date published: 21 October 2004

The 2005 Rochdale Calendar, sold in aid of Springhill Hospice, was launched at the Hospice during a special presentation evening on Tuesday 12th October.

Sponsored once again by the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, Rochdale, the calendar contains 12 postcard views of the Rochdale Borough, with recipes on the reverse side of each monthly page.

The launch was attended by the Mayor of Rochdale, Cllr. Angela Coric, the Mayoress of Rochdale, Mrs Katherine Rowan-Pennington, the Mayor of Whitworth, Cllr. Kieran Heakin, along with many others including Hospice Trustees and Patrons. Also included in the audience were several photographers keen to see if their picture had made it into the finished product, as each year the Hospice holds a photographic competition from which the pictures for the calendar are chosen.

The honour of gracing the front of the 2005 calendar, with a picture voted for by the general public when the photographs went on display in the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, has gone to Thomas Burns of Middleton for his picture of Slattocks Lock No. 54 on the Rochdale Canal.

Ian Jenkins, Springhill Hospice Fundraising Manager, said, “The Rochdale Calendar is our most popular and best-selling item of merchandise. Last year we sold about 7,000 calendars, and they were sent around the world – from Canada to New Zealand. We are very grateful to the Wheatsheaf Shopping Centre, and all the other sponsors of the calendar and also to the people who have submitted photographs for inclusion in it.”

The calendar, priced at just £2.50, is available for purchase at various outlets around the Rochdale Borough – to find out who your nearest stockist is, please telephone Springhill Hospice Fundraising Office on 01706 711144.
