Roadworks, temporary road closures and restrictions

Information on current and forthcoming roadworks planned to take place across the borough.

Rochdale: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new pedestrian crossing on St Mary's Gate

Expected start and finish: Monday 23 September 2024 – Thursday 27 March 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary 30mph speed limit on a section of St Mary's Gate in both directions. This will begin at its junction with Union Street and continue to its junction with Spotland Road. Vehicles will also be prohibited from waiting at any time along this section.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install permanent one-way barriers and signs for one-way working

Expected start and finish: Monday 21 October 2024 – Friday 20 December 2024 as and when required. Only one street will be worked on at a time.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of the following roads:

  • Ashfield Road: from its junction with Boundary Street to a point 10 metres away in a westerly direction.
  • Castlemere Street: from its junction with Drake Street to a point 10 metres away in a southerly direction.
  • Kensington Street: from its junction with New Barn Lane to a point 10 metres away in an easterly direction.
  • Mere Street: from its junction with Tweedale Street to a point 10 metres away in a northerly direction.
  • Osborne Street: from its junction with New Barn Lane to a point 10 metres away in a westerly direction.
  • Vivian Street: from its junction with Ashfield Street to a point 10 metres away in a north westerly direction.

Temporary suspension of the one-way working on the following roads:

  • Ashfield Road: in a south-westerly direction from its junction with Boundary Street to its junction with New Barn Lane.
  • Castlemere Street: in a south-easterly direction from its junction with Drake Street to its junction with Tweedale Street.
  • Kensington Street: in a north-easterly direction over its entire length.
  • Mere Street: in a north-westerly direction from its junction with Tweedale Street to its junction with Drake Street.
  • Osborne Street: in a north-easterly direction over its entire length.
  • Vivian Street: in a south-easterly direction from its junction with Kensington Street to its junction with Osborne Street.

Alternative route: Alternative routes will be signed on street when the closures are in place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a pedestrian crossing - Redcross Street

Expected start and finish: Friday 25 October 2024 – Friday 7 February 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Redcross Street. This will start at its junction with St Mary's Gate and continue to a point 17 metres away in a northerly direction.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair an electric mains in Clement Royds Street

Expected start and finish: Thursday 7 November 2024 – Thursday 28 November 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Clement Royds Street. This section starts at the junction with Spotland Road and ends at a point 25 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Spotland Road, Mitchell Street and Ashworth Street.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To repair a frame and cover in Pargate Chase

Expected start and finish: Thursday 7 November 2024 – Thursday 28 November 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Pargate Chase. This will begin at the junction with Edenfield Road and continue to a point 93 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: Due to the nature of this road, there will be no diversion in place.

Area: Rochdale
Reason: To install a new gas mains supply in Grafton Street

Expected start and finish: Monday 18 November 2024 – Friday 20 December 2024
Restriction and location: Grafton Street: a section will be temporarily closed. This will start at its junction with Channing Street and continue to a point 20 metres away in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Channing Street, York Street, Crawford Street, Moss Bridge Road, Kingsway, Waithlands Road and Grafton Street.

 


Middleton: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Middleton
Reason: To carry out bridge works - Boothroyden Road

Expected start and finish: Monday 12 August 2024 – Monday 11 August 2025
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Boothroyden Road. This will start at a point 34 metres south of its junction with Boothroyden Close and continue for a distance of 27 metres in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To repair a damaged sewer in Edward Street

Expected start and finish: Tuesday 12 November 2024 – Tuesday 3 December 2024
Restriction and location: Edward Street: a section is temporarily closed. The closed section starts at a point 38 metres south of the junction with King Street, and ends at a point 39 metres away in a southerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route is signed on site.

Area: Middleton
Reason: To repair a damaged sewer in Rookway

Expected start and finish: Friday 15 November 2024 – Friday 6 December 2024
Restriction and location: Rookway: a section will be closed. The closure will start at a point 80 metres west of the junction with Uplands and end at a point 35 metres away in a westerly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Uplands, Kingsway, Crow Hill North and Rookway.


Heywood: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Heywood
Reason: To carry out required works to pavement and road on the Queens Park Road bridge and help traffic flow.

Expected start and finish: January 2024 – December 2024.
Restriction and location:

  • Introduce one-way working in a northerly direction along Queens Park Road, from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road.
  • Introduce one-way working in a southerly direction along Bamford Road from its junction with Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road.

Alternative routes:

  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Queens Park Road in a southerly direction from Bury and Rochdale Old Road to its junction with Heywood Hall Road is via Bury and Rochdale Old Road (B6222), Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58) and Queens Park Road.
  • The alternative route for vehicles wishing to travel along Bamford Road in a northerly direction from its junction with Heywood Hall Road to Bury and Rochdale Old Road is via Bamford Road, Market Place, York Street (A58), Queens Park Road and Bury and Rochdale Old Road.

Area: Heywood
Reason: To create a new drainage connection in Tower Street

Expected start and finish: Monday 2 December 2024 – Monday 16 December 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Tower Street from its junction with Pilsworth Road for a distance of 62 metres in an easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Pilsworth Road, Egerton Street, Coomassie Street, Cartridge Street and Tower Street.


Pennines: temporary local road closures and restrictions

Area: Pennines
Reason: To repair a dangerous manhole frame and over in the road - Hare Hill Road

Expected start and finish: Friday 8 November 2024 – Friday 29 November 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of a section of Hare Hill Road. The closed section starts at a point 42 metres south east of its junction with Whitelees Road, Shore Road and Calderbrook Road. It ends at a point 32 metres away in a south easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is signed on site.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To replace a gas main in Silver Hill

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 13 November 2024 – Friday 6 December 2024 or whenever the work is completed.
Restriction and location:

  • Temporary closure of Silver Hill for 90 metres, starting from a point 28 metres north west of its junction with Kiln Lane.
  • Temporarily stopping vehicles from waiting at any time along Silver Hill for 90 metres, starting from a point 28 metres north west of its junction with Kiln Lane.

Alternative route: The alternative route will be Silver Hill, Croft Head Drive, Wildhouse Lane and Kiln Lane.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To replace a frame and cover in Little Clegg Road

Expected start and finish: Wednesday 13 November 2024 – Wednesday 4 December 2024
Restriction and location: Little Clegg Road: temporary closure of a section. The closure starts at a point 22 metres from its junction with Broadfield Drive and ends at a point 20 metres away in a north easterly direction.
Alternative route: The alternative route is signed on street.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To replace the anti-skid measures on Chapel Gate

Expected start and finish: 8am, Monday 25 November 2024 – 6pm, Friday 29 November 2024.
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Chapel Gate from its junction with Dale Street to its junction with Delph Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles will be Chapel Gate, Major Street, Smith Hill and Dale Street.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To hold the Littleborough Christmas lights event

Expected start and finish: 2pm–7pm, Saturday 30 November 2024
Restriction and location: Temporary closure of Station Road, from its junction with Church Street to its junction with Peel Street.
Alternative route: The alternative route for vehicles is Church Street, Morgan Street, Peel Street, and Station Road.

Area: Pennines
Reason: To hold the Wardle Village Christmas Eve Carol Concert

Expected start and finish: 5.30pm – 8.30pm, Tuesday 24 December 2024
Restriction and location: Ramsden Road: temporary closure, from the junction with Crossfield Road to the junction with Wardle Fold.
Alternative route: There is no alternative route for vehicles.
