Sandbrook Community Primary School opens eco classroom pod

Date published: 14 October 2015

Pupils at Sandbrook Community Primary School welcomed the Mayor to open their new Eco Classroom.

The school, which prides itself on promoting the arts, will be using the new classroom pod as a music facility.

Mr Mulkeen, Head Teacher at Sandbrook Community Primary School, said: "I am delighted with our new music studio. The pod is a fantastic structure which enhances the existing facilities of the school and provides an outstanding learning environment for our children."

The pods have been designed and built by Pod Living Ltd in conjunction with Manchester based architects AFL. The pods are the brain child of directors Philip Doleman from Manchester, and Nick Clegg who is originally from Rochdale.

Nick Clegg said: “We are passionate that sustainable buildings should not only promote and protect the environment, but should also inspire the children and teachers that use them.

"I am extremely proud to be able to construct one of our eye catching pods in my home town for this fantastic school.

“The design, what they are made of, the ethics behind them, the ease at which they can be constructed and the price, have all really captured the imagination of forward thinking head teachers like Mr Mulkeen at this school, and are a far cry from the portable cabins whilst being very similar in price.”
