Milnrow (Ladybarn) Bowling Club bid for car park funding

Date published: 09 September 2015

Milnrow (Ladybarn) Bowling Club needs your help to secure funding for a new car park.

The club dates back to 1910, based in the village of Milnrow, with members ranging from eight to eighty plus, who enjoy good exercise, fun and fellowship.

The club is situated next to what was The Ladybarn and the club was allowed access and car parking by the pub for many years.

However, over six months ago the pub closed and has been sold to a property developer with planning permission to convert the pub into new apartments and to build four houses on the existing car park land.

The developer has made contact with the Club and has said he wishes ‘to work with us’ for the good of the local community and our members.

Ken Davies, Chairman of Milnrow (Ladybarn) Bowling Club, said: “His proposal is to offer the club vehicle access to our green, at present we only have a ‘walking access‘, and lease some of the land for twelve car park spaces, adjacent to the proposed access.

“This will obviously involve the club in quite substantial cost, in order to provide a new public entrance and also attend the work needed to result in clearly defined club car parking spaces.

“The club has initially obtained a costing for the total work involved at £2,500 and has applied for £500 funding from Grassroots Giving, from Skipton Building Society.

“This funding will make such a difference to securing the future of Milnrow (Ladybarn) Bowling Club and in so doing continue to provide a much needed and appreciated bowls facility for our local community.

“We have been informed that our application has now been shortlisted, but whether we receive the grant depends upon online voting during September.

“Please vote now by clicking the link and going to the bottom of the page."
