Man Sentenced for Murder of Middleton Man

Ian Andrew Yates - Guilty
A 25-year-old man has today been sentenced to life imprisonment after he was found guilty of the murder of 20-year-old Craig Matthews, who was stabbed to death on Wince Close in Alkrington on Sunday 15 February 2004.
Craig was from Kirkway in Middleton where he lived with his mum, dad and two brothers, one older and one younger.
His dad said: "Our son's death was a tragic waste of two lives, Craig's and the person responsible for killing him."
Officers were called to the incident at 2.30am on Sunday 15th February 2004. Craig was taken to North Manchester General Hospital but he died as a result of his injuries.
Ian Andrew Yates of no fixed abode, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a suggested minimum of 9 years and 7 months.
