Family and friends organise fundraiser in memory of Katelyn Parker

Date published: 20 August 2015

Family and friends of Katelyn Parker have come together to organise a fundraising event in her memory and to help raise money for her funeral.

Organised by friend Jessica Gardiner and some of Katelyn’s cousins, the event will be a family fun day and will include activities from a pool tournament to a raffle, guess the teddy and food.

Speaking to Rochdale Online, Jessica said: “We wanted to help raise money for the funeral and to do things that Katelyn would have liked.”

Shortly after 3:50pm on Friday 14 August 2015, police found the body of 24-year-old Katelyn in a blue Nissan NX100 on River Street, Heywood.

48-year-old Lee Nolan has since been charged with murder and appeared at Manchester Crown Court on Tuesday (18 August). The case was adjourned for a plea and case management hearing, which will be held on 2 November.

Jessica met Katelyn over 10 years ago through Rochdale Youth Link and described her as a “lovely, bubbly and caring person”.

She added: “She had her ups and downs in life and lost her mum when she was younger, so she would talk about that a lot, but she always just got on with things.”

All are welcome at the event to remember Katelyn.

Jessica added: “We know there are a few different fundraising things going on but we just wanted to come together and do something as well.”

The event will take place on Sunday 6 September from 10:30am at the Three Terriers pub in Heywood.
