Rochdale resident Stewart Pearson describes Bangkok as 'peaceful' following bombing

Date published: 19 August 2015

Stewart Pearson from Bamford has described the city of Bangkok as “peaceful” following the bombing of the Erawan Shrine on Monday (17 August).

Stewart, who is currently in Thailand, paid a visit to the shrine just two days before the bomb went off.

He said: “I visited the shrine two days before the bombing so it is a very scary thought. Things are quite peaceful at the moment though.”

Stewart has been visiting Thailand for 17 years and spends six months in Thailand and six months in Rochdale.

“The people of Bangkok are as kind as they always are and only a short while after the bomb, Thai China and others were in a large queue at the hospital donating blood,” added Stewart.

At around 7pm (12:00 GMT) on Monday 17 August, an improvised explosive device detonated inside the Erawan Shrine in central Bangkok. The police described the bomb as a “pipe bomb wrapped in white cloth.”

The explosion killed 20 people and injured more the 120 people.

Police have released a detailed sketch of the main suspect.
