Postman Mugged in Middleton
Date published: 24 June 2004
Officers in Middleton are appealing for witnesses after a postman was mugged on Friday 18 June 2004.
The 51-year-old man was walking along Boarshaw Road at around 11:00am when three males approached him. One tried to grab the bag from his shoulder and they then threatened to stab him if he did not hand over the bag and it's contents. The postman was punched in the back of the head causing him to let go of the bag and the offenders ran off with it.
At 11.50am officers found a bundle of mail in a field between Boarshaw Road and Hereford Way and half-an-hour later at 12.20pm a black bin liner full of mail was found in a nearby wood.
One of the offenders has been described as a white male, around 5ft 10ins tall, of slim build, wearing a baseball cap and a light coloured jacket.
Anyone who may have seen this incident or who has any information is asked to call police at Middleton on 0161 856 8753 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
A 15-year-old and 17-year-old boy, who are both from the local area have been arrested in connection with this incident.
