Time for Tea – Tesco helping Springhill Hospice

Date published: 08 June 2004

Britain’s biggest tea party, Tea at 3, comes to Rochdale on Friday, June 18 at 3pm, and this year it will be bigger than ever. It’s all in aid of Springhill Hospice, helping to raise vital funds for the Hospice’s 15th Anniversary Refurbishment Appeal.

With everyone in the UK drinking over 1000 cups of tea per person per year it is the ideal opportunity to help your local hospice. The staff at Springhill need you to take part and you can do this in various ways which include:

  • Coming to one of the Tea at 3 parties taking place at Springhill Hospice, Tesco Rochdale and Tesco Middleton on 18th June at 3pm
  • Holding your own fundraising tea party
  • Donating money at your tea break
  • Entering the competition to win a years supply of Tetley tea for the most unusual tea party.

Last year thousands of tea parties took place across the UK in lots of different locations such as lifeboats, up ladders, in trees and even on a tractor. Hundreds of local groups took part and Springhill Hospice is joining the venture this year along with our two local Tesco stores.

Actress and celebrity cook Jane Asher is also supporting the event and has created a special ‘Tea’ Cake made with Tetley Tea. Tetley Fruit Tea, Marmite, Fox’s Biscuits, Soreen and Candarel are supporting Tea at 3 by making a donation of items sold through Tesco stores and Tesco.com.

Tea at 3 forms part of the Hospice Care Campaign which takes place throughout June to raise awareness and funds for hospices across the UK. The Springhill Hospice '15th Anniversary Refurbishment Appeal' is using the campaign to help raise £1.2m (over and above the £1.8m needed to keep the Hospice functioning) in order to fund a variety of projects such as the building of a new overnight facility for patient’s relatives. In addition the Appeal will also raise funds to provide the Hospice with new fixtures and fittings in replace of current items which are showing signs of age.
