Falinge Park High School 80th anniversary heritage fair

Date published: 11 July 2015

Falinge Park High School celebrated their 80th anniversary today (Saturday 11 July) by holding a heritage fair at the school.

Organised by teacher Michelle Uddin, the event attended by staff, pupils and former pupils.

Michelle said: “We really wanted to celebrate the heritage of Falinge Park and the values.

"We have seen a lot of past pupils come along so that has been nice.”

The event included an exhibition of old school photographs, Victorian games, birds of prey, inflatable assault course, crafts, speakers and workshops, face painting and refreshments.

Michelle added: “It has gone really well and it has been nice to see the former pupils come along and reminisce.”

Falinge Park was originally known as Mount Falinge and was built by James Royds around 1800. The Royds family were woollen merchants, who employed weavers working in their own cottages, such as Bentmeadows.

Alderman Sir Samuel Turner purchased Mount Falinge, with 18 acres of grounds for the town in 1902 to mark Edward VII’s coronation. The final cost to him was £14,000.

Mount Falinge was damaged by fire in 1975 and only the façade and terrace remain.
