Boy's Christmas present stolen by robber

Date published: 05 February 2014

A young boy had the BMX bike he was bought for Christmas stolen by a robber in Rochdale.

At about 1.30pm on Saturday 18 January 2014, the victim, a 12-year-old boy, took a break from riding his X-Rated Quarter BMX bike on a track at Mandale Park off Manchester Road.

He was approached by the offender, who without warning punched the boy in the stomach, winding him in the process.

He then snatched the BMX from the boy’s grasp and rode off.

The bike was a recent Christmas present.

The offender is described as white, of chubby build, about 17 years old, with short, light brown hair and blue eyes. He had a freckly complexion, “goatee” beard and was wearing a grey bubble jacket and grey tracksuit bottoms.

Pc Lorraine Norbury, said: “A young boy was out with a friend, enjoying his new Christmas present, when he was assaulted and robbed in broad daylight.

“To have his pride and joy snatched from him in such a way has obviously caused him considerable distress and I would urge people to look closely at the image and to contact us if they think they recognise someone from it.

“I would also like to hear from anyone who has information as to the whereabouts of this BMX bike.”

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 0161 856 8458, or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
