Wardle’s Year 8 Students Charity Drive

Date published: 04 February 2014

In the run up to Christmas, a group of Wardle’s Year 8 students were determined that they were going to do something to help others. After much debate, they decided to run a paper airplane competition, a new / second-hand toy sale and a cake sale.

The students chose to support the charity Link4Pink, a breast cancer charity based at The Royal Oldham Hospital. It was set up in 2008 in order to raise money to build a £160,000 conservatory extension to The Victoria Breast Unit. This has since been completed, but the charity continues to raise money to support patients with breast cancer.

They decided to also donate part of the proceeds to The Blue Cross: a charity that helps sick, injured and homeless pets.

Next week the students will be going to the Royal Oldham Hospital to present a cheque for almost £800. The students will also be presenting a cheque for £100 to a representative from The Blue Cross animal charity at a Year 8 assembly next week.

Well done to all the students and staff for making this charity drive such a huge success!
