Falinge Park High School will be moving into their new school building in January 2014 with demolition of the old building being completed in June 2014.

The current building was built in 1935 and is the last of the secondary schools in Rochdale to be upgraded.

Headteacher Robin Lonsdale said: “There is a lot of history with the old building and we still have records going back to the days when it was the girl’s grammar school.”

Falinge Park High School began life as Rochdale Girl's Grammar School in 1935 with an intake of 350. In the late 1960s the school became Greenhill Upper School for both boys and girls aged between 13 and 18. In 1990 the school became known as Falinge Park High School withthe intake changing to the current age range of 11-16.

“I have been told by the building team that everything is on track and I should be getting the keys shortly,” added Robin.

To mark the move to the new building, staff at the school will be selling postcards of images of the old building. Mr Lonsdale said: “They are a cross section of images that show different aspects of the school.”

Postcards bundles are being sold at 50p a set but the school are not making any profit from the sets. “We are only making enough money to cover the ink,” said Robin. “We are selling them as more of a momento for people rather than to make profit from them.”

Even though the old school building has served staff and pupils well, Robin thinks it is time for a new Falinge Park School. He said: “This building has served the community very well indeed but it is coming to the end of its shelf life. I think it is time to have a new building that will serve well for the new generations coming through.”

Postcard sets can be purchased from the CEPA Office or directly from the school reception and cost 50p for a bundle of eight cards.
