Feel Good Festival: Aazam Ahmad promotes healthy eating

Date published: 30 August 2013

BBC fusion chef Aazam Ahmad has been promoting healthy eating and healthy lifestyles at today's (Friday 30 August) Feel Good Festival.

The chef, who was appearing for the sixth time at this year’s festival, had been paired with Rochdale Council's public heath sector to promote change for life and healthy eating.

Aazam said: “Healthy food can be sexy, fun and interesting and it is about teaching people that.”

During today’s festival, Aazam cooked live on the celebrity food stage and involved three young volunteers: Esther Ayorinde, Chloe Slater and Grace Rothwell all took to the stage to help Aazam cook a variety of healthy dishes.

“We need to teach the kids about healthy eating when they are young so that they understand it and aren’t afraid of it later on,” said Aazam.

Esther, who made chutney with Aazam, said: “It was really good fun and the food was really nice as well.”

Aazam went on to cook tuna steak and salsa as well as a chicken dish.

Chloe Slater said: “I wasn’t nervous and had lots of fun.”

Grace Rothwell helped cook sauce for the dishes and said: “I used tomatoes, coriander and herbs. I really enjoyed it.”

Grace's mum, Helena was proud of her daughter’s achievement on stage, she said: “It was really good to see her get up there, I’m really proud of her.”

Aazam, who held two live cooking sessions today, will also be cooking again tomorrow (Saturday 31 August) and will continue to promote health eating.

He said: “It is my pleasure to promote healthy eating and it is important to promote different foods.”
