Norden circus in the park

Date published: 29 August 2013

Dozens of villagers gathered to celebrate the Bank Holiday Sunday with a special circus in the park.

Friends of Norden Jubilee Park put on a special circus themed event for families in the area.

Rochdale based Skylight Circus Arts put on workshops for people to learn new skills such as juggling and plate spinning.

There was also music, facepainting and a bouncy castle.

Cafe Eden provided a barbecue at the Bridge Inn pub while Norden Women's Institute offered preserves for sale.

The fun day received funding from Rochdale In Bloom and the Co-op, which provided fairtrade cakes, tea and coffee for older people who came.

Ben Greenwood, treasurer of Friends of Norden Jubilee Park, said: "It was a really nice day and everyone seemed to have a great time. I think we had about 250 people come throughout the day.

"Skylight were brilliant and I think both adults and children enjoyed learning some circus skills.

"Rochdale In Bloom kindly gave us some funding and we raised quite a lot on the day for future events and for our chosen charity, Rochdale MacMillan nurses."

The Friends, supported by local pub the Bridge Inn, aim to put on free events at the park for families to enjoy.

The group meets in the Bridge Inn every two weeks and are on the look out for new members. For more information, contact Ben Greenwood on 07545429146.
