Young people are encouraged to 'Get on Track'

Date published: 29 August 2013

An exciting new programme for young people aged 16-25 who are not in education, employment, or training is coming to the borough.

Get on Track is a 16 day sports participation programme that creates stepping stones for young people to move towards participation, volunteering, training and work opportunities.

Get on Track provides young people with the self-discipline, motivation and confidence needed to enhance their chances of employment.

The programme will delivered by world class athletes (Sophie Cox - Judo, Charlotte Hartley - Hockey and James Goddard - Swimming) who have experienced the highs and lows of world class competition.

The programme is broken down into three phases:

'On Your Marks', which involves three days of teamwork, team challenges and physical activities to get the programme underway

'Get Set', which builds on the team spirit and camaraderie gained in the initial three days, giving the opportunity to try new sports, volunteering activities to help make a difference and visits to local employers.

'Go', gives you a chance to celebrate successes on the programme in front of friends, family and those who have been a part of the programme along the way.

By completing Get on Track, there is the opportunity to apply for a bursary to access funding to support with: Sport, Training, Education, Volunteering and Employment.

Lunch is included in all of these days and transport expenses are covered.

In addition, on completion of the 16 day programme Link4Life will offer every young person a free six months gym pass.

If you are interested in the programme a recruitment day is being held at Rochdale Leisure Centre, Entwisle Road on Wednesday 25 September 2013 from 11am-12noon.
