Fun day raises money for church

Date published: 24 August 2013

The grounds of St Gabriel’s CE Primary School were transformed today to hold a fun day to raise money for St Gabriel’s Church.

The church currently has no disabled access so fundraising has begun to raise money to alter entrances. Joan Woodhall, an organiser of the fun day said: “We need to raise money to have the side door and entrance to the church altered for disabled access.”

The fun day included donkey rides, a bouncy castle, face painting, police offering advice about home safety, the fire and emergency support service, a variety of stalls and a beer tent for the adults.

Organisers of the event aren’t quite sure how much money is needed to fund the work but Joan said: “I would like to raise a couple of thousand pound today and that would be a good start.”

Musical entertainment was provided by Middleton Popstars Academy. Ann Marshall, director of Middleton Popstars Academy, said: “This is the first time some of the singers have performed in public. It's nice to see them
display the skills you have passed down to them.”

Mayor Peter Rush also attended the event and had nothing but praise for everyone involved. He said: “I am very impressed with the singers and the entertainment as well as the cupcakes and the refreshment. I have been shown great hospitality and this is a credit to the school.”

This event is the first fundraising event to raise money for the disabled access and Joan Woodhall said: “It has been a real group effort with help from Mildred Boscock, Elizabeth Leech, Frank Jackson and my daughters who are responsible for today, Zoe and Amy Woodhall.”
