Attempted theft from an 85-year-old woman

Date published: 23 August 2013

An attempt to steal rings from the fingers of an  85-year-old woman was made in broad daylight on a street in Middleton.

The 85-year-old woman was approached by a white eastern European female at the junction of Wood Street and Windermere Road in Middleton on 21 August between 10:40am and 10:50am.

The female engaged in conversation with the 85-year-old and offered her a gold chain by placing it in her hand. Whilst doing this she attempted to remove the victim’s rings from her fingers.

The offender then pulled a ring from her own pocket and offered it to the victim for £10. The victim stated she has no money.

At this point a witness has asked the victim if she is ok. The offender, along with another female who was stood nearby have then made off in a nearby waiting car.

The offender was in company with another woman and two men. The two men were waiting nearby in a parked car on Windermere Road, which has been described as a burgundy estate car.
