Hard work pays off for GCSE students at Wardle High School

Students from across the borough have received their GCSE results this morning and pupils from Wardle High School have impressed staff by achieving the schools highest ever set of GCSE results.

Wardle High School has seen an 8% increase in students who achieved five A*-C, including Maths and English. The rise is from 64% to 72% which is in stark comparison to the fall nationally.

Even more impressive is Wardle’s achievements in Maths and English. Nationally, 63.6% of students gained English GCSE at C+ and Wardle achieved 80%. In Maths, nationally 57.6% achieved Maths at C+, with 74% of Wardle students achieving above a C.

Pupils from Wardle High School spoke to Rochdale Online about their results and their future plans.

Ella Hodges said: “I’m really happy. It was worth all of the effort and stress. I can’t stop smiling.”

Ella will now move on to Rochdale Sixth Form College to study for her A levels in drama, psychology, English literature and law. “I then want to study English Literature at university” added Ella.

Jack Brierley, who achieved A star grades, is also heading to Rochdale Sixth Form College and hopefully moving on to Manchester University. “I want to be a physicist and that’s something I have always wanted to do,” he said. “The hard work has definitely been worth it.”

Molly Barrett is heading off to study for a B-Tech in performing arts at Bury College. “This looked like the right course for me and with the grades I got, it was something I knew I should be doing,” said Molly, who was extremely pleased with her results. Molly added: “I am definitely over the moon and hopefully performing arts is my future.”

Head Boy Mason Gill achieved two A, five B, three C and three Merits. Mason is hoping to go on to study photography at University, a hobby he pursues at the moment.

 Kiran Iqbal achieved  two A*,  six A, three B and three Passes.

Dr Graham Wright, Headteacher at Wardle High School, said: “We are pleased to report further year on year improvements on last year’s results both in our 5 A*-C including English and maths and also our overall 5 A*-C.

"We are proud that all our students leave Wardle with high GCSE grades. This is down to hard work of all involved, students and staff and of course, parental support has been invaluable.

"Our Year 10 students have also achieved excelled results and this promises excellent results in the future.”
