Date published: 21 August 2013

Youngsters at Rathbone in Rochdale got the opportunity to have their say during a recent MP visit.

Rochdale MP, Simon Danczuk was given a Question Time style quizzing by pre and post 16 learners at the centre who were keen to hear the MP’s views on everything from issues surrounding employment to regeneration in the area.

Mr Danczuk toured the Rochdale centre and heard how it works with around 250 young people aged 14 to 24 each year.

Staff were also able to share information on a new financial capability programme called Barclays Money Skills ‘champions’ and its outreach and engagement programme -Pathway to Success Project. Funded by the European Social Fund, it allows Rathbone to engage with those young people that are farthest away from employment, education or training.

Linda Dean, Managing Director of Rathbone said : “We were delighted to host Mr Danczuk and to be able to demonstrate first hand the fantastic work we do in Rochdale.

“It was also a great opportunity for our youngsters to have their voice heard which is one of our key missions. At Rathbone we’re passionate about empowering all the young people we work with so that they feel a key part of our organisation and communities.”

Simon Danczuk said: “It was a pleasure to meet with the youngsters and learn more about Rathbone. I was highly impressed by the confidence the youngsters showed and with the skills they are acquiring.

“Rathbone is providing its learners with a unique approach to education and it is fantastic to see the emphasis on Maths and English, which will ultimately improve these youngsters’ chances of gaining employment and a better future.”
