Fire on Ebor Street, Littleborough
Date published: 20 August 2013
Acetylene cylinders were being cooled by firefighters using jets and an aerial appliance at a fire on Ebor Street, Littleborough, tonight (Tuesday 20 August).
Six appliances attended the blaze at DS Motors, which was on fire along with two neighbouring properties.
Fire crews, along with support vehicles, tackled the fire, including using an aerial appliance.
A number of cylinders were found in the car garage, including acetylene cylinders - resulting in a cordon being put in place surrounding the incident.
Station Manager Ian Duckworth said: "A number of cylinders were found in the garage including acetylene cylinders.
"The cylinders are being cooled by firefighters using jets and an aerial appliance and they will be monitored throughout the evening until they are considered safe.
"Firefighters are working within a 30 metre cordon and our colleagues at Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have put a larger cordon in place - which means that there are a number of road closures in place, the trains have been stopped temporarily and a small number of people have been asked to leave their homes while we deal with the incident."
Road closures were in place for several hours while GMFRS worked together with other services including GMP, Network Rail and North West Ambulance Service.
Trains between Rochdale and Hebden Bridge were delayed while emergency services dealt with the incident.
