Students to show photography talent in local exhibition

Date published: 20 August 2013

Photography students are getting ready to show just how talented they are at a special exhibition, to be held at Touchstones, in Rochdale.

The exhibition has been organised by the students after they decided that the work they had produced while completing the digital photography course, run by Hopwood Hall College, deserved a public viewing.

Since then, the group of eight students have been busy putting the final touches together for the exhibition entitled ‘Shutterbugging in suburbia’.

The exhibition, which is free to visit, opens on 31 August and runs until 16 November. It will feature over 20 photographs taken by the students, focusing on the diversity of their photographic assignments, with special interest in images of the local borough.

Their tutor, Paul Butcher, commented: “This is a great opportunity for people to see what can be achieved through learning and commitment.

"The group has been a delight to teach and to be able to celebrate their achievements in this way is great.

"Photography needs to be seen and this is a great opportunity to do just that.

"I’m really proud of all the students and would like to encourage everyone to visit Touchstones and see just how well they have done.”

Jane Moran, from Rochdale, who completed the photography course and came up with the initial idea to organise the exhibition said: “Everyone who took part in the course had such a great time and achieved so much that I felt that we should show off our work.

"We couldn’t believe it when we approached Touchstones and they agreed to host the exhibition. We’re all really excited about it and have been working hard to make sure everything is ready in time.”
