Rochdale jewellery valuer 'superb'

Date published: 17 August 2013

Rochdale jewellery valuer Louise Butterworth has had her work rated as ‘superb’ by the National Association of Goldsmiths Institute of Registered Valuers.

To maintain the high standards of the Institute, members are regularly monitored. This involves a request from the Institute of blank samples for a specified number of valuations for insurance, of both new and antique items, and probate purposes carried out within a certain period and covering a specified number of items along with the working notes and photographs.

The monitoring panel then examines every aspect of the valuation including checking all valuation figures, the research and working methodology.

The panel’s comments on Louise’s work were:

  • 'This work is a pleasure to monitor.'
  • 'Why can’t everyone work to this standard?'
  • 'Superb.'

This is not the first time Louise has gained high praise for her valuation work. In 1997 she was only the fourth person to be awarded the prestigious David Wilkins Award after nomination by the National Association of Goldsmiths Valuations Committee for her ‘extremely impressive work, her standards, ethics, interpretation of trade knowledge and overall presentation’.

The National Association of Goldsmiths Institute of Registered Valuers has about 230 members throughout Britain and Ireland.

Louise is one of only a few based in a retail environment where clients communicate directly with the valuer at all times and where their goods are valued on the premises.
