Date published: 17 August 2013

MAMC held an arts for Health and Wellbeing Summer fun event today (Saturday 17 August) to help promote information and activities on wellbeing as well as hosting a fun packed day for people of all ages.

Attended by Mayor Peter Rush and Mayoress Monica Rush as well as local councillors, the event was held to raise awareness of positive mental health, wellbeing and signposting local services available in the borough.

Organiser and Chief Executive of MAMC, Mohammed Sarwar, said: “This is an important event to show multi-cultural experiences to the wider community.

“Multi cultural-events are important to show skills, experience and the great diversity that exists in this town.”

Rochdale Circle, Healthwatch Rochdale, Link4Life, Greater Manchester Fire Service, Multi-Faith, Rochdale District Mind, Petrus, Assisi Embroidery and RUBF were all in attendance to offer help and advice to people.

Mayor Peter Rush said: “We couldn’t have had a warmer welcome.

"We have seen many different cultures and this shows a community of diversity.

"The event is first class and it is our pleasure to been invited.”

Councillor Cecile Biant, Chairwoman of Rochdale Township Committee, said: “It is a nice event to see the arts and to meet different people.

"I have been supporting the group for a number of years now and it is really good to see young people from
youth services helping with the organisation of the event.”

As well as stalls providing information, musical performances were on offer all afternoon, including performances from the Carers Choir and the Kawa band from India, plus a raffle for the children and food. A presentation of certificates also took place, awarding people certificates that had passed courses with MAMC, supported by Hopwood Hall College.

Mohammed said: “We are very thankful to Link4Life, community groups, Hopwood Hall College and Youth Services for supporting the event.

"We also thank Rochdale Online for their support.”
