Littleborough Arts Festival gears up for twelfth year

Date published: 15 August 2013

Littleborough Arts Festival will begin on 24 August and will be held to display and exhibit pieces of artwork to locals and visitors.

The festival, which has been successfully running for twelve years, will run until Sunday 1 September and will offer a variety of local artists displaying artwork, a photo competition, local schools displaying artwork put together over the past year and a variety of musical performances and concerts.

Richard Cafiero, Chairman of the committee responsible for organising the festival said: “Many people have commented on how the standard of work gets better each year and this year, 60-70 local artists will be displaying their work.”

This year festival goers can look forward to a variety of workshops held over the nine days, music performances including Lauren Waterworth, The Watch and the Little Jazz Funk Orchestra (29 August) and craft stalls for local vendors to sell their goods. “We have everything from chocolate making to jewellery” added Richard.

Littleborough Arts Festival takes organisers eleven months to organise and arrange. Richard said: “From when this festival finishes, meetings about the next one will start four weeks later. It’s not something that is discussed everyday but it is at least once a month.”

“We have a small committee that work hard to produce the final product and it is very rewarding to see everyone work together.”

Money raised from the festival is donated to Springhill Hospice and the festival has built up a good working relationship with the hospice over the past twelve years. Over the years, the festival has donated almost £18,000 to the charity. “From everything we raise, 20% goes to the hospice and we have a good relationship with them” said Richard.

Littleborough Arts Festival was set up in 2001 to promote the arts within the community and to raise the profiles of artist within the area. “The festival has developed local awareness and has raised the profile of Littleborough” said Richard.
