St Anne’s Sixth Form celebrates ‘outstanding’ A-level results

Date published: 15 August 2013

Students at St Anne’s Sixth Form, Middleton have received their A-level results today (Thursday 15 August) after a tense wait over summer.

Their hard work over the past two years has paid off with many looking forward to starting university in September.

The Sixth Form is now seeing an increasing number of students opting to take the path towards university degrees as grades improve each year.

Principal Mrs Caroline Preece said: “Students study a mixture of vocational and academic courses.

“These are the best ever results for us so far. The vocational results are outstanding with an increasing number of distinction stars, distinctions and merit awards.

“The staff and the students work really hard to achieve.”

For Dianne Parkinson who teaches the BTEC level three diploma in creative media production, this is the first year that she has taught the course.

She said: “Out of seven students, five of them came out with distinctions.

“We knew when they’d finished that they’d got them. They did it; they did all the hard work.”

This course seemed particularly popular amongst the students. Michael Fraser is set to start a course in media at The University of Salford after gaining a good result in the subject at St Anne’s.

He said: “It’s been really good studying here as I already knew the staff. I’m really happy with my results.

“Half of me wishes that I could stay on another year but the other half of me wants to meet new people.”

Mary Ann Chizea is amongst those excited about future university life. She will be starting a course at Kingston College, London in Fashion and Textiles.

She said: “I’m very happy with my results and I’m really glad that I came to this college because everyone was really helpful.”

Thomas Bradshaw is looking forward to starting his course in Work and Life Skills after passing his studies in Health and Social. He’s already made friends at Hopwood Hall and is excited about this new adventure.

Friends Danielle Young and Shannon Gregory will carry on the next stage of their academic lives together at Liverpool John Moores University. Both girls are very happy with their results.

Danielle said: “The teachers here were really helpful and I already knew most of them from high school.”

Danielle is ready to start her degree in Sports Development. Shannon will start her course in Web Development at the same university.
