Rochdale Sixth Form excels with A Level results
Date published: 15 August 2013
Students from Rochdale Sixth Form College received their A Level results today and achieved a pass rate of 99%.
Kobi Howarth was one of those waiting in line this morning. “I was nervous but I looked on UCAS and saw that I had got in. I think I’ve done ok. I’m going on to study primary school teaching with science at Edge Hill University” she said.
Rhiann Canavan will also be attending University in September and will be attending Birmingham University to do a four year physics degree. Rhiann said: “I am definitely pleased with my results. I am a little shocked as well because I didn’t expect so many A* results.”
“Coming to Rochdale Sixth Form was the right choice for me. I’ve learnt so much and the teachers have been great.”
Christopher Wain who is going on to work at BMW in Manchester was pleased with his results after achieving two A’s, one B and one E. “The job I am doing is something I fell in to. I didn’t think university was for me and when this came up, I decided to take it and run with it” said Christopher.
Gemma O’Reilly, a musician from Rochdale Sixth Form College achieved an A in English literature, an A in English language and a D in Spanish. “Spanish was difficult to learn” she said.
Gemma, who has been performing since the age of 12 will be aiming to further her music career by recording original material. “I got signed to a small independent label and will be doing my own material and making a music video. I didn’t see the point in rushing off to university because I didn’t see the point in giving up something I love” she added.
Robert Bradley is another student who hopes to take on the bright lights and hopes to become an actor. He studied music, drama and film at college and hopes to gain experience in acting now he has finished college. “I am pleased with my results. I was predicted a C and two D’s, so getting three B and an A in my written drama exam is good” said Robert.
Julian Appleyard, Principal at Rochdale Sixth Form College said: “These fantastic results really demonstrate the hard work of both the students and teachers and I’m so glad that our students have achieved the results, and university places – they deserve.
“The average A Level results per student have increased by almost one and a half A Level grades, which is just brilliant.”
