Local author has first novel published

Date published: 12 August 2013

Wardle author Paul Grindrod has had his first novel, When the Willow Breaks, published.

The novel, which took Paul six years to write,  is semi biographical.

“I’m a bit scared to go and look at how things are going,” said Paul.

When the Willow Breaks tells a story based partly on fact about the life of Richard Blackwood a practicing psychotherapist. Richard’s home life is settled, he has a loving wife, four bright and healthy sons and a nice house in the country, but he wants more. When the Willow Breaks is not so much about greed, but about a man who loses sight of the here and now, a man who unwittingly gambles with his future.

Paul, who previously made the move to South Africa for work, said: “It was therapeutic to write. Things needed to be said but not necessarily under my own name.”

Now living back in Wardle with his partner, Paul has plans to write more books. “I have two to three more to write and they will follow on from this one,” he said. “I’m currently half way through the second book.”

The book had previously been sent to publishing agencies but Paul didn’t hear anything back. “Publishers are pretty busy these days. It only took me about a month to get it published and on Amazon” he added.

When the Willow Breaks is currently selling on Amazon for £7.01.
