From Acorns, good things grow

Hopwood Hall College has been working with Oldham based ACORN Treatment and Housing running a series of short courses designed to help the organisation’s clients develop skills and plan for the future.

The courses, organised by the College’s community learning team, have included family first aid, five steps to a healthier lifestyle, beginners IT and managing your money, and were offered to clients taking part in the Recovery STAR Rehabilitation Programme.

The Programme is designed specifically for those in recovery from addiction, to help them overcome the practical and psychological barriers in gaining employment or progression into further education.

Emma Whittle, Hopwood Hall College’s Programme Manager for Community Learning and Skills for Life, commented: “It’s been such a pleasure to work with these learners. We’ve been able to help them develop new skills, take up the challenge of learning and also do really well in the process.

"ACORN is a fantastic organisation and we are pleased that we could work in partnership with them to enhance their clients’ progress throughout the STAR programme.

"We look forward to working with them again in the future.”
