Jim Kennedy from Littleborough celebrates completing the London to Surrey

Date published: 06 August 2013

Jim Kennedy, from Littleborough, is celebrating after successfully completing the Prudential Ride London 100 cycle and raising £1,100 for the NSPCC to help support vulnerable children and young people.

Jim, (55), a company director and father of two, completed the 100 mile cycle from London to Surrey on 4 August in 5 hours and 29 minutes and commented: “This was the first ride of its kind in the UK and it was a fantastic event to be part of.

"The sunshine was out, there was a great atmosphere and I’m really pleased I took part.

"The most enjoyable part was coming back into London and heading towards Trafalgar Square with all the crowds cheering on."

Jim is no stranger to cycling challenges, having recently completed the Marathon of the Dolomites, and also a mountain stage of the Tour De France in the Pyrenees back in 2008.

Jim continued: “I’m delighted to have raised £1,100 for the NSPCC. My wife Carole is member of the NSPCC Littleborough committee, they are a small group of friends and neighbours who do fantastic work raising money and we thought this ride would be the perfect way to raise funds for a worthy cause.

"It’s brilliant to think that the money I’ve raised from completing the ride will make a real difference to children’s lives and will support children who suffer cruelty and who can’t always help themselves.”

Deborah Sefton, NSPCC community fundraising manager, said: “A huge well done to Jim for his brilliant efforts in the Prudential Ride London 100.

"We simply couldn’t continue to provide our services which are a lifeline to many children without the support of people like Jim – so a big thank you for your support.

"The money raised will help us to make a real difference to the lives of abused children, young people and their families, across the region and around the UK.”
