Mayor’s Charity Quiz 2013

Date published: 05 August 2013

Mayor Peter Rush and his fundraising committee will be hosting the Mayor’s Charity Quiz to raise money for the Mayor’s Borough Charity Appeal.

Money raised from the event will be split between two charities. 50% of the proceeds will go to the Alzheimer’s society and the remaining 50% will be split between charities and organisations in Heywood.

Councillor Andy Kelly, organiser of the quiz said: “It is a quiz for everyone. It will have ten rounds of ten questions each with 100 questions in total.”

“It isn’t like mastermind. The questions are being written by me and the other quiz masters and we’re making them all guessable questions.”

The difference with this quiz is that the quiz will be held at four venues across the townships of Rochdale all starting at the same time. The semi finals will be held on Friday 13 September commencing at 7:30.

“We’re expecting 80 teams all together, 20 in each township” said Andy.

The semi finals of the quiz will be held in:

  • Rochdale Catholic Club, Ann Street, Rochdale
  • Milnrow Working Men’s Club, Milnrow
  • Middleton Arena, Middleton
  • The Heywood Pub, Heywood
The top six teams will then progress to the final of the quiz being held at Rochdale Town Hall on Friday 20 September, also starting at 7:30 with special guest host The Governess from ITV’s The Chase, Ann Hegerty.

“Ann is great and is giving her time for free to help with the quiz” said Andy.

Winner of the final will receive a trophy donated by Wild’s of Oldham, drinks wholesalers who supply to Rochdale Town Hall.

Teams of up to six people can take part with a cost of £30 per team. Anyone interested in signing up should contact Andy Kelly at: andy@andykelly.co.uk or by phoning 07947 609 277.
