Does hospital food meet your expectations?

The Catering Department at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust is inviting the public, staff and its members to a special, free tasting session to launch the new hospital menus on Thursday 22 August 2013, 4 – 6 pm at the Broadoak Restaurant, Fairfield General Hospital in Bury.
Food and beverage services play an important role in the treatment of all patients and is an essential part of patient care. Good food can encourage patients to eat well, giving them the nutrients they need to recover from surgery or illness
The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust provides a range of menus to cater for differing conditions as well as cultural and religious beliefs. The trust also provides a pictorial menu to assist patients in choosing the meals they most enjoy.
The number of meals provided annually to patients in the Trust is 1,479,000 which equates to us feeding 1,350 patients three meals a day. We also provide meals to patients at Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust, Manchester Mental Health and Social Care Trust, NHS Bury Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) and children’s onsite day nurseries.
Howard Cartledge, Catering services Manager at The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust, said: “The event will give delegates the opportunity to taste a variety of food from the weekly menu including; special diets, cultural and religious diets. We take great pride in providing a quality services to each and everyone of our patients and staff, and remind everyone Florence nightingale said “Food is a medicine which aids recovery”.
The event is one in a series of free ‘Medicine for Member events’ held every month by The Pennine Acute Hospitals NHS Trust giving the public the opportunity to visit hospital departments and receive talks and presentations from hospital staff.
