Councillor Alan McCarthy, Lead Member for the Armed Forces
RSM Clarke VC memorial paving stone will be laid in Winsford where he was born, however, he lived for most of his life in Rochdale and is interned here after receiving a funeral with full military honours.
Councillor Alan Mccarthy has requested that DCLG consider making two memorial paving stones, one for Winsford and one for Rochdale.
2014 marks the Centenary of the outbreak of the First World War.
The Government has been working on a Centenary Programme that has as its overarching themes, remembrance, youth and education.
On 4 August 2013, DCLG announced a national competition to find the most suitable design for these paving stones.
This design is likely to become an enduring symbol of the Centenary commemoration.
