Ellenroad Engine House Steam Sunday
Date published: 04 August 2013
Every first Sunday of the month, Ellenroad Engine House holds a steaming afternoon. This is a chance for the steam engines to be operated and families to experience the museum.
Keith Crabtree, acting chairman of Ellenroad Engine House Museum Trust, said: “We usually see about 200-300 people on a good day but that can depend on the weather.”
During today's steaming afternoon, two steam engines were in operation and visitors were able to see the fourth largest engine in the world, the Fern engine.
Keith added: “There is not a lot of planning for these days but we do have a general format for the year and stick to that.”
The engine house has been popular recently with a visit from the Newcomen society, a prestigious society in regards to steam engines. “We had guests from Australia, New York and Holland,” said Keith.
The museum opened in 1985 to ensure the preservation of Ellenroad Engine House and engines and is regarded as the world’s largest working steam mill engine.
