Arrests after police apply the heat

Date published: 30 July 2013

Twenty-two arrests have been made in Rochdale as part of a summer crackdown on crime by Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

Eight people have been charged so far for offences including robbery and vehicle theft in the Rochdale area.

Nearly 300 people in Greater Manchester have been arrested as part of the crackdown.

Officers carried out raids and used mobile electronic screens to target and publicise the county’s most wanted criminals as part of Operation Resolute, which ran from Monday 22 to Sunday 28 July 2013.

There were 296 arrests made for a variety of offences including robbery, vehicle crime, burglary, assault, drug-related crime and immigration offences, and of those arrested 75 have been charged so far.

Ten arrests were also made as a direct result of wanted offenders being displayed on screens across Rochdale as well as Manchester, Salford and Bolton.

The operation also saw local policing teams reminding residents not to tempt burglars by leaving doors and windows open for long periods in the hot weather, and advice was given out on keeping sheds and garages secure too.

Chief Inspector Donna Allen for GMP said: “This operation has proved to be a successful follow up to the similar week of action we ran in spring. Officers from all divisions have worked exceptionally hard to rid the streets of those offenders causing the most harm to their communities, and this is reflected in the overall results.

“Although this operation finished on Sunday evening, the work of bringing criminals to justice continues, and I want to reassure people that we will still be out there on the streets keeping them safe, supporting victims of crime and tracking down wanted criminals. The message to anyone who knows they are wanted is very simple – hand yourself in, as you will remain on our target list until you are caught.”
