Date published: 30 July 2013

Wardleworth Community Centre has launched a programme of activities for local children and young people.

Activities will run from 20 July to 1 September and include basketball, table tennis, indoor soft cricket, pool games, Carrom boards and darts and Nintendo Wii.

The centre will be running a number of clubs for the summer holidays that will take place throughout the week.

These include Saturday ‘Kids Club’ from 12.00pm to 2.00pm, a ‘Chill-out Sport Club’ on Sunday from 2.00pm to 4.00pm, a ‘Youth Internet Café’ on Wednesday and activities provided by Rochdale Youth Service on Thursday for the Wardleworth Juniors. This will run from 6.00pm to 9.00pm.

All the activities are funded by the community centre, meaning that all the activities provided are free to participate in.

Local youths using the facilities have welcomed the programme saying that they now have somewhere to go, play sports and make a lot of friends.

Mohammed Miah of Wardleworth Community Centre said: “We’re a community centre so we are giving the opportunity for local kids to utilise their time and the building during the summer holidays and engage with other children.

“We are pleased to offer a range of action packed programmes of sports and leisure activities for children and young people throughout the summer holidays, and are hoping to continue some of the activities at the weekend.

“This is a great fitness routine for the local youths, which allows them chance for them to engage in good things, have a better understanding of life and respect each other.”
