Scare tactics campaign

Date published: 30 July 2013

MEP Paul Nuttall says there is a 'behind the scenes' propaganda campaign against moves for Britain to withdraw from the EU.

"There is a lot of money being devoted to this highly organised campaign and I have no doubt that even more will be thrown at it as next year's Euro-elections approach.

"Euro-scepticism has never been so great so it is understandable that vested interests are running very scared," said Mr Nuttall, UKIP Deputy Leader.

'Business For New Europe' has been set up by a group of businessmen and retired bureaucrats to fight a public and private campaign to keep Britain in the EU.

"They know that sooner or later we will be given the in-out referendum we deserve and want and interestingly this campaign coincides with figures confirming what UKIP has always said that we would be better off out," said Mr Nuttall, Euro-MP for the North West.

"New statistics show that Britain attracted more investment from overseas than any other EU country last year. The number of foreign investment projects rose by 11 per cent to 1,559, according to a report by UK Trade and Investment.

"This group are not just lobbying in this country and raising millions of pounds but also lobbying leaders of other nations and they will use whatever scare tactics they can to frighten and mislead.

"UKIP put our membership of the EU on the political agenda in the first place and the establishment of this we new group demonstrates that we are winning the argument," said Mr Nuttall.
