Fundraiser for hospice in memory of Ann Medford

Date published: 27 July 2013

Family and friends of Ann Medford celebrated her life and raised money for Springhill Hospice with a soul and disco funk night tonight (Saturday 27 July).

The fundraiser, at Bar Mystique, upstairs from The Flying Horse hotel in Rochdale town centre was held to say thank you to staff at Springhill Hospice.

Helen Jefferson, who helped organise the event, said: “Ann spent time at Springhill and they were really good with her.

"Jeff, Anne’s brother just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone at Springhill.”

The event showcased a night of entertainment including singer Brendan Decko, who opened the show, mind magician Jonathan Royle, up and coming singer Danny Kay and DJ sets from Miss H (Helen Jefferson) and DJ Pepz.

Money was raised for the charity through an auction and raffle for prizes, including a framed Joe Hart signed shirt, a framed football boot signed by Ruud Van Nistelrooy and a cricket shirt signed by England players.

Helen said: “It has taken months to organise. We wanted enough time to get everything together. We wanted to do it now because summer puts people in a good mood to come out.”

Ann, who was a nurse at North Manchester Hospital, died in February 2012.

Helen added: “I knew her from when I was five years old. She was like a big sister to me.”
