Environmental action
Date published: 27 July 2013
So far this year Rochdale Borough Council Corporate Enforcement Team has dealt with in excess of 2,600 reports of environmental offences throughout the borough.
Action to address these reports:
- Seven prosecutions for fly tipping and littering with fines and costs awarded in excess of £3,000
- Six signed cautions for fly tipping resulting in a total of £940 being received in costs contributions.
- 200+ formal statutory notices and warnings have been served upon residents and businesses to secure tidy ups of their gardens or land managed by them.
- Responded to and investigated over 1,200 incidents of fly tipping.
- The team have also carried out 60 scheduled high profile group patrols in attempt to reduce the amount of littering and dog fouling on the streets.
Campaigns
- July has seen the launch of a dog fouling campaign. The pilot commenced in the Boarshaw area in Middleton with an approach aimed at educating schools and residents on the impact dog fouling has on the environment. Local businesses will be provided with dog fouling bags to give out to customers. The campaign will be analysed and rolled out boroughwide.
- Surgeries will be launched in each Township to allow residents to drop in to discuss environmental concerns.
