Hopwood Hall College to receive £4.7m

Date published: 27 July 2013

Hopwood Hall College is to receive £4.7m worth of investment from the government and private money to refurbish the college campuses.

Hopwood Hall College has been awarded a grant of £1.6million in government funding and will also receive investment of £3.1m in private money.

The college will spend the funds refurbishing the college’s Rochdale and Middleton campuses, including new training kitchens, hair and beauty salons, ICT workshops and flexible classrooms. Work will begin in August and be phased over three years.

The news comes after the College applied for funding through the new College Capital Investment Fund (CCIF) scheme. The scheme has been set up to support colleges across the UK in their efforts to ensure learners reach their full potential with access to specialist equipment to support education and training.

Skills Minister Matthew Hancock said: “The Government is helping to create specialist facilities that will ensure thousands of students get the best possible learning experience and inspire them to reach their potential, while addressing local skills shortages.”

Private money came from College reserves, set aside for reinvestment. This latest round of money follows the recent announcement of the College being awarded a £65,000 grant by the Savoy Educational Trust. This money will be put towards the College’s new catering training facilities at the revamped Rochdale campus.

Saf Arfan, Director of Corporate Services at Hopwood Hall College said: “The funding offers the College the chance to improve the campuses even more and we are looking forward to starting work on them this summer.”
