The Pennines in Bloom team outside Milnrow Library – complete with flowering pots, hangers, etc
The Pennines area of Rochdale is taking part in the in North West In Bloom gardening competition again this year and this year’s team is hoping to grab first prize.
Councillor Ann Stott said: “The competition is a good advertisement for the area. We are trying to brighten up the district.”
Ann and her team of approximately twelve people have prepared for the contest. She added: “We have a boat on Hollingworth Lane that we have decorated with flowers and have tried to make the town look better with flowers.”
Ann’s team includes Friends of Hollingworth Lake, Irene Davidson, Friends of Hare Hill Park member Malcolm McCormick and admin staff from the local township.
Ann added: “The competition is Pennine wide so there is a lot of competition. A village outside of Gartside won last year but places like Castleton and Bury also had winners.”
Every year, the Council’s Township and Environmental Management team submit Pennines, Rochdale and Heywood for inspection by independent inspectors from the Royal Horticultural Society as part of North West In Bloom competition.
Judging for the competition is on Friday 26 July.
