Healey Dell Heritage Centre opens new tea room

Date published: 22 July 2013

The Healey Dell Heritage Centre opened its doors to celebrate the arrival of the new Heritage Tea Room.

The centre welcomed the Mayor and Consort of Whitworth who declared the opening of the new room on Saturday 20 July.

Mayor Councillor Karen Ruane, who opened the event, said: “It’s an absolutely fantastic and amazing place. The café now has two-storeys and caters for all including those with prams or the disabled.

"They served proper tea and were selling ice-cream for the children. It was very well attended.

"I would recommend it to everyone. It’s fantastic.”

This special day had a variety of activities for all the family including live music for the adults and a face painting for the children.

Co-founder, Janice Percy, said: “Since cut-backs forced the Council to close the building last year, the self-funded, voluntary run centre has been providing much needed visitor provisions to those enjoying the reserve since opening just three months ago.

To meet demand and the needs of those with limited mobility, the centre has now refurbished the ground floor Heritage Room and has transformed it into a replica of the much larger Edwardian themed Tea Room on the first floor.”

The Healey Dell Heritage Centre & Tea Rooms is open Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays from 10am - 4-30pm.
