Wardle student diary: Reflecting on achievements

Date published: 22 July 2013

Timothy Hudson has been a pupil at Wardle High School for four years. He says...

Going into Year 11 has allowed me time to reflect on my achievements, none of which would have been possible without the support that the school has provided me with.

In Year 7, I quickly made friends which I found surprising considering I really was not a people person.

The school has a ‘buddy’ scheme to help Year 7 pupils with the transition to a new school. Having experienced bullying in the past, I found the ‘buddy’ scheme that the school set up was very helpful.

I would always commend the school on its bullying policy with my own issues having been completely dealt with within two days of my reporting.

When I moved up into Year 8 I joined the ‘buddy’ scheme because I knew what it felt like to be alienated in a massive school and I knew what a difference the scheme makes to how new students feel.

The transition from Year 7 to Year 8 put me into Roussin House which was the house I had always wanted to be in due to its good reputation having the best attendance and punctuality. Being in a house really gives you a sense of house identity from the beginning of your GCSE years.

Year 9 was when things started to heat up with regards to our subject choices. We had to choose between History and Geography (I chose Geography) and was placed in our respective classes. Towards the end of the year we were asked what subjects we wanted to take and I was torn between Triple Science and ICT, finally deciding on Triple Science and Music.

In Year 10, as well studying academic subjects, I passed my grade 8 violin exam with merit.

I also started a YouTube channel called Huddo55 gaming and started to build a replica of the current school.

A member of staff noticed this and asked me to build a concept of the new school before it was built. This went very well and having spent two months on it and having built it off of 2-D plans I am very proud of what I have achieved. I feel it gives people who are not very good at visualising spaces, the ability to see what the new building will look like.

The school are really proud of my work and I received a headteacher’s merit for my efforts.

All Year 10 students have now been taking part in a Year 11 taster period. I have really enjoyed my new timetable and being a prefect has been challenging, but fun.

I have really enjoyed my four years at Wardle High School and I look forward to another year of hard work and challenges.
