Mark Mason Fun Day

Date published: 21 July 2013

A charitable donation of £2,500 was presented to the 430 Squadron Air Training Corps at the Mark Mason Fun Day.

The event, held at Rochdale Rugby Union Club today (Sunday 21 July), included a children’s entertainer, bouncy castle and games and also had activities for adults including a 40s dance exhibition, classic cars and a raffle.

David Greenhalgh, event organiser, said: “The event is held every year and is a fun day for kids and their families.”

Provincial Grand Master of the Mark Mason charity, Keith Schofield, said: “We support different charities throughout the year and take recommendation’s from people. As long as they are a registered charity and work within East Lancashire then we can hopefully help.

“The air cadets helps young people and gives young people a chance to show off what they can do and today gives people a chance to help out.”

The Air Cadets currently has 30 cadets and 11 of them attended to accept their donation. Vice Chairman of the cadets, Andy Hill said: “This money is crucial for the cadets because it means money to spend on equipment, events and transport.”

Treasurer of the cadets, Kath Tanker, added: “We are governed by the protocol of the RAF but are a registered charity and have to raise funds ourselves. That is something that people don’t know.

“The air cadets is good for kids because it offers them a good start in life, keeps them off the streets and boosts their confidence.”

The afternoon ended with the presentation ceremony and a march performed by the cadets.
