MT Heads MCC bikers rally

Date published: 20 July 2013

MT Heads MCC bikers rally is taking place this weekend at Mayfield Sports Centre.

The sell out rally has attracted over 300 bikers from all over the region to enjoy a high-octane weekend of bikes, beer and music whilst raising money for charity.

MT Heads MCC Chairman Geoff explained to Rochdale Online: "We are a local club that meets every Monday at the Flying Horse in Rochdale town centre.

"We organise this rally once a year and it is always a sell out.

"We aim to raise money for our charity through this rally, and this year that is the National Association for Bikers with a Disability (NABD) - in just two hours we have raised over £300. Last year we raised over £3,000 altogether."

Gary Seddon, of the NABD said: "This is our second year here and it is excellent. Good crowd, great facilities and a decent size camp site.

"I've been doing this 12 years and it gets under your skin."

The NABD along with other charities such as Animals in Distress have stands at the rally.

Last night the biker's entertainment was TFB (Three Fat B****ds), local guitar legend Phil Barratt's band. Tonight three bands will take the stage: Fretsaw, A Joker's Rage and Age of Paranoia.

Acknowledging bikers are sometimes tarnished with a bad image, Geoff added: "We make sure those coming and going ride responsibly, we have marshals on the roads. When we leave we clean up and leave the site as clean as we found it. We have never had any complaints from residents."

The rally finishes tomorrow (Sunday 21 July) afternoon.
