Flying Horse owner campaigns to raise awareness of Alports Syndrome

Date published: 18 July 2013

An event organised by the owner of the Flying Horse, Ben Boothman, has raised over £2,000 for the charity Action for Alports.

The charity was established to raise money towards research into Alports Syndrome.

The main aim of the charity is to improve the future for sufferers and ultimately facilitate faster diagnosis and better management for those affected by the disease.

It’s something Ben feels very passionate about. His son was diagnosed with it a month ago: “I had no idea about Alports when my son was diagnosed, I don’t think my GP did either."

The event held at the Flying Horse on Saturday 13 July featured bands from all over the country.

Ben told Rochdale Online: “It was great because they played for free so every penny went to charity.

“Not a lot of people know about Alports Syndrome so the aim of our events are to raise money and awareness. Our next event is a midnight walk on 5 October.

“What has helped is being in constant communication with other families. A lot of these people are in a similar situation to us.”
