Matthew Moss headteacher retires

Matthew Moss Headteacher Andy Raymer
Andy Raymer who retires as Head of Matthew Moss High School this week, has created a school which has attracted international attention and is the only UK school to appear in the Innovations Unit’s list of schools for the 21st century.
Mr Raymer took over in 1989 and quickly changed the ethos of the school with a variety of schemes.
Many people believe the success is due to Mr Raymer’s determination to do what is right for the students, as opposed to worrying about league table places.
Deputy Headteacher, Mrs Norman says he has brought a lot to the school: “He has introduced a project based learning curriculum which has had great success.
“We want the children to go into the world of work being able to think for themselves, we have achieved this through lessons which focus on independent learning.”
She then added: “It’s been a pleasure to have worked with him over the last 16 years, I have enjoyed every minute.
"Everyone at the school has wished Mr Raymer a long and happy retirement and they hope to see him continuing the fight to put learning at the centre of schools."
The new Head Teacher is current deputy Mark Moorhouse.
